War on Terror Essay Example for Free

War on Terror Essay If I was the president of the United States in the present times I would use a very different approach in addressing the issue on war and terror. The phrase â€Å"war on terror† is not often used since America cannot win terrorism by the use of military means alone as terrorism is not against an organized enemy who has set out clear identities and has a set of objectives that are coherent. I will cautiously handle the issue with one thing in mind that the war on terror will not be resolved with an overwhelming single blow but this war will demand international cooperation and extreme patience. It would be my duty as the president of the United States of America to ensure that war on terror is not misguided and I would take the holistic approach in addressing the issue on war on terror as the emphasis today seems to be directed on the shutting down of the Al Qaeda cells in existence. I have a very strong believe that terrorist threats must be taken seriously and as a country we would not have any choice but to increase our investments in countering terrorism. As the president I would also make an effective responsive in relation to the modern day terrorism and not just concentrate on enhancing our capabilities on counter terrorism but also I would ensure that that as a country we are prepared to face up to the mistakes we have made in the past. I would use the holistic approach in approaching the issue on war on terrorism. My approach to war on terror In the holistic approach to war on terror I would mainly focus on the 3Dapproach which entails diplomacy, defence and development in pursuit of security objectives of America as a country. This approach will be designed as a strategy which will build its victory’s on the long term, medium term and even short term. I would initially fully embark on diplomacy and encourage peaceful negotiations with the relevant parties through an open discussion or dialogue. If this fails I will the further employ the defensive measures that will ensure the security and also the safety of my country’s citizens. I will take all the necessary measures and prepare my country such that incase of any form of attack my country will be ready to counter the same attack accordingly. I will then employ all the security measures as I ensure that the country’s security is not threatened at any given point. Personally as the president of the American people I would also make efforts in ensuring that there are very effective defenses against any international terrorism especially if it is targeting my country. After which I will focus on those particular countries that which harbors and host individuals and even groups that advocate, finance or even arm these groups thus supporting terrorism instead of stopping it. Also as the American president I would fully pursue the whole-of-system approach in handling the issue on terror which promotes democracy, the human rights and the rule of law and also good governance. To begin with I would establish democratic practices and institutions civil liberties and also political freedom to all the American citizens. I would also unsure that I rule with justice and exercise my power as the president with a lot of democracy. Similarly I would ensure that my government is not authoritarian since authoritative governments provoke a lot of grievances which buds regimes that are safety valves for all the collective anger. After the September 11th attack in America I would have declared the war on terrorism and the battle fields of this war would extend to wherever the terrorists run hide or even plan. Fighting terrorism in a fully democratic country like America has been and will always be a challenge since the actions taken by the American government on countering terrorism may be perceived differently by the public in general who would view it as an infringement on their human rights. I would also tighten the country’s security at the border points, the air ports, the ports and any entry points to the American land. I would be very strategic in presenting my plan to the congress so that I would get support from the majority of members of the house. Conclusion I will prepare a proposal plan which will effectively and strategically address the threatening issue. First of all, I will make it clear that as a nation whether we get involved in solving longstanding conflicts or we don’t involve ourselves at all we will still attract anger other nations who are not our allies. I will present a proposal that will encompass the diplomatic actions that we as a country should take in dealing with war on terror. Similarly the proposal will also outline the ways in which as a country we will defend ourselves in case of any form of attack from the terrorists and also how we will handle any terrorist threats. (Chasdi, 2002) In my proposal I will greatly emphasize on dialogue among civilizations which will further help in promoting the intercultural harmony and further diffuse the terrorism based on hate. I would also put across the fact that as a super power America needs both the military and police actions in combating the threat of terrorism internationally. The key points in my proposal would be the strengthening of the defensive shields that are territorial by the establishment of the multi yard system. I will also emphasize on the fact that the country’s improvement on its intelligence capabilities which is a major force multiplier. Reference Chasdi, R. The Country of Iraq Essay -- Research Iraq Essays Papers

The Country of Iraq   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The country of Iraq has weathered many hardships over the past few decades. An eight-year war over territory with Iran began in 1980. Soon after, in 1990, Iraq invaded the country of Kuwait, which led to the Gulf War. Then, after twelve years of not complying with the UN Security Council over weapons of mass destruction, Iraq was invaded by the United States in March of 2003.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  A consequence of Iraq's rocky past is an unstable government. Several countries, including the U.S. are currently providing aid to help the rebuilding effort. Some efforts include strengthening school, healthcare, and law enforcement systems with education and reconstruction. Recent government changes for Iraq include a new flag and new currency. The new flag has a blue crescent moon in the center and is white with one yellow and two blue strips at the bottom. The new currency is called the New Iraqi Dinar, and it features many new safety features to prevent counterfeiting. There is also currently an interim (temporary) government in Iraq. Elections by the Iraqi people will hopefully occur on the 30th of January this year. If the elections proceed as planned, Iraq will be one step closer to having an independent government.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Though Iraq is in a time of crisis, it is truly an interesting and beautiful country. At twice the size of Idaho, it is the home to about 25,374,691 Iraqis. The primary religion in Iraq is Muslim. Almost 97% of Iraqis are practicing Musli...

Single Mom and Going Back to School

Single Mom and Going Back To School I am in my mid-thirties and going back to school. I would have to say that my children are the primary reason behind this decision. I am their role model and teacher and I intend to be the best one possible. I want to show my children the endless possibilities of hard honest work. I want to send them to college and live comfortably. Throughout my personal experience, I have learned that anything is possible even while I am balancing a family, multi jobs and school. Once I left high school in 1992, I attended the Sawyer School for Business. With class to finish, I found out that I was pregnant and having problems. Because of my pregnancy problems, I had to leave school. I didn’t graduate because I was not able to complete that one class. After, that I had no motivation to go back to school; a decision I always regretted. A few years later, I got married and had a beautiful baby girl named Dominique. Now, she is eighteen and graduated high scho ol. I got divorced and went from working at a factory making curtains to being a security guard at the Convention center in Providence. At this time of my life, I thought to myself, â€Å"I could afford to go back and my kids need me†. Then, I met my boyfriend and two and a half years later, I was pregnant with my second daughter Selena; and she is now twelve and in the sixth grade in middle school. After having Selena, I went from driving a school bus to being a police dispatcher for the Bristol Police Department. After working there for two years, I thought to myself, â€Å"I can’t work the third shift and working as a police dispatcher was a very stressful job†.So, I applied at the main office for the school department to become a secretary, although they were only hiring a sub-secretary. I immediately took the job; I wasn’t even considering school. Then, a few months passed and I was pregnant again with a beautiful baby boy named Dennis. Dennis is now six years old and in kindergarten. When he was born, I really did not have a job in mind, so I decided to start my own business by cleaning houses. This was the perfect job for me at the time because having a newborn, a six year old, and a twelve year old was a lot of work.It was very convenient for me to start house cleaning because I chose my hours. I was working two to three hours a day and was still available for my kids. At this point of my life that I still couldn’t go back to school. One day, I decided to apply for a job on the third shift because I needed the extra money and it would be convenient for my kids and I. Working at Atria in Portsmouth required me to tend to elderly people. The most important thing to me is caring for the residence.I enjoyed working there so much and it made me think that I could go back to school to become a CNA, or even become a nurse. During the summer of 2012, I thought, â€Å"What am I doing with my life? † I was cleaning houses and taking care of the elderly. I suddenly realized that my girls were older and my son was in kindergarten; it’s the perfect opportunity for me to accomplish my dream. So, I figured out my schedule so I would have plenty of time for work, school and my two youngest children. Finally, I thought to myself that I can go to school, get a degree, and maybe take my kids on vacation. Advice from one single mom to another single mom anything is possible if you have the heart and mind set. First, you need to decide what you want to do for a career. Second, find out where you can get help financially. Third, find a safe place for your children. Therefore, I know it makes me feel good that I am showing my kids that anything is possible if you put your heart and mind into it.

The Odyssey, written by Homer at the end of the 8th century is one of the most influential pieces of literature in our society. Through this epic, Homer was able to compose a piece of literature that remains prominent in classrooms today. Homers, The Odyssey was one of the only epics of its time to have such prominent female characters. Through the characters and plot, Homer challenges ancient greek social standings by making women a prominent key to the plot and life of protagonists, Odysseus and Telemachus. In ancient greek, a womans place was often lacking in comparison to men, but, through the Odyssey, it is demonstrated just how important women are. The women in The Odyssey proved that a woman has the power to make or break a mans purpose. Homer created personalities and roles for females in the epic that contradicted true ancient greek beliefs. Our writers will create an original "Female Characters In The Odyssey" essay for you Create order One must understand the real life roles of women in Greece during the time to then understand the different lives the women in the Odyssey led. Women in Greece at this time led a life of subservience to the man. Their main role and duties were to bear children and be caretakers of the home. Society was ruled and governed by men with little regard to the opinions of women. Women rarely held any position higher than that of the wife of so and so. They were married at the young age of 13 to 14 and the whole role of a womens education was to prepare her for a family (Cartwright, 2016). If, as a woman, you were not married, it was believed that you had no other calling in life. In the eyes of the law, women were under the complete authority of their husbands (Cartwright, 2016). It is apparent that womens lives in ancient greece were far from glamorous. Most of a womans life was to satisfy and obey her husband. In the Odyssey, some traditional roles of women are depicted and evident throug hout the story; However, Homer took this opportunity and made the females in his story lead a very different purpose. Homer put women in non-traditional roles that were unheard of in everyday life. The women in the Odyssey were given heightened personalities that allowed their characters to develop with as the story continues. Throughout the journey, it was women that helped guide the way or women who were able to deter God-like men such as Odysseus. Without these women Odysseus epic journey may have had a different outcome. Some women tempted him and some women would make sure he was on the right track to make it safely back home. A whole new identity and purpose was created for the woman. There are three different types of women throughout The Odyssey; humans such a Penelope, goddesses like Athena and even mythical creatures such as Calypso. Odysseus encounters each one of these women and is affected by them all. Penelope, Odysseus husband is a very loyal and faithful wife to him. She fights off suitors for years and raises their son Telemachus alone in hopes of his return. Even with all of the suitors begging for Penelope she patiently awaits her one true love to hopefully return home. After the war ends, Odysseus is unaccounted for and Penelope must wait 10 more years to be reunited with her husband. The reader is drawn to Penelope because of her goodness. Her loyalty during a 20 span period is unwavering. The relationship of Penelope and Odysseus is uncommon in its devotion and romance. Most relationships end in all sorts of tragedies, but not the marriage between Odysseus and Penelope. This is impart of Penelope herself. Without this overwhelming loyalty Penelope has for Odysseus their relationship could have ended in tragedy. Penelope was a beacon of hope and showed Odysseus the power of faithfulness in a relationship.
